About the Guildhall
Sandwich Guildhall Museum is situated in the heart of the town. It tells the rich and varied story of Sandwich through the ages, from its early beginnings to the present day. Â
Located in the 16th Century Guildhall the museum houses treasures including the 1300 A.D Sandwich Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest as well as artefacts dating back to the  Mesolithic period.Â
The Guildhall was built in 1579. Work in 1812 encased the building in yellow brick; this was removed 100 years later in 1912, when the south west wing was also added.Â
Further alterations were undertaken later in the 20th century. The Guildhall contains antique panelling and paintings, particularly within the council chamber. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes a stained glass window, showing Queen Elizabeth I arriving at Sandown Gate in 1573, which was added in 1906.
The security staff at this building have reported the sounds of footsteps in the halls, an intense feeling of being watched as they lock up at night and the old staircase has a scary surprise for the casual visitor so hold on to the handrail!
Ghost Club members will automatically receive their discounts at checkout.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase BOTG merchandise and signed photos at this event.
